Brief About PE Coated Aluminium Foil and Met Pet Film

Aluminium Foil is manufactured through a specialized rolling process where large aluminium slabs are thinned in multiple stages until they reach the required gauge. To maintain precision, technicians use high-performance sensors to monitor mill pressure, ensuring the foil remains uniform in thickness. Because the metal becomes extremely fragile at thin gauges, a "doubling" technique is employed where two layers are rolled together to prevent tearing. This results in the characteristic bright and matte sides often seen on household and industrial foil. Due to its solid metal structure, aluminium foil provides a 100% absolute barrier to light, oxygen, moisture and bacteria, making it the gold standard for pharmaceutical packaging and aseptic storage of perishable goods.

In contrast, Met PET (Metallized Polyester) is a high-performance hybrid material created through vacuum metallization rather than mechanical rolling. In this process, a base PET plastic film is passed through a vacuum chamber where pure aluminium is evaporated and condensed onto the film’s surface in a layer only nanometres thick. While Met PET does not provide the "absolute" barrier of solid foil, it offers a "high" barrier that is significantly more cost-effective and flexible. It is particularly resistant to "flex-cracking"—a common issue where folding solid foil creates microscopic pinholes—making it ideal for snack food packaging and reflective insulation where durability under handling is essential.

To enhance these materials for specific applications, they are often PE (Polyethylene) coated or laminated with various substrates. PE coating typically acts as a heat-sealable layer, allowing packaging to be fused shut with heat and pressure for an airtight seal. These foils and films are frequently combined with materials like Chromo paper, Kraft paper, or Polypropylene to add mechanical strength and aesthetic appeal. These tailored laminates serve diverse industries, ranging from industrial thermal insulation and vapor barriers to specialized flexible pouches for the food and medical sectors.
